Help Us Keep the Old Opera House Theatre
Presently the building which houses the Old Opera House Theatre in Kooskia is for sale. The Opera House is an icon of this community and is at great risk of being lost for ever!
In taking a positive outlook on this, the Greater Kooskia Chamber of Commerce has formed a special Opera House committee.
We have been awarded a $7,000 feasibility study grant from the Idaho Commission on the Arts via an application from UCCF. With this study it is our goal to obtain conclusions from this study that would tell us what the best use for the building will be. We would like to keep the Opera House operation running and lease the lower level retail space as an artist incubator. The outcomes of this study will tell us if this will actually be something we should do.
This study will also tell us if we should make this building a community building or if it should be held by a private party.
The study will determine what business would thrive in Kooskia at that particular location. A business plan could be an outcome of this study.
We have invited a consultant form OREGONPARC to meet with us in Kooskia to work on a capital raising plan and other information on services his firm and known associates are able to perform for us. See www.oregonparc.com for more information on MR. Foster and OregonPARC.
The Greater Kooskia Chamber of Commerce will pay Mr. Foster and possibly another consultant, Mark Seder, the mileage reimbursement of up to $300 to come to Kooskia for a day and meet with us.
I am asking you to make a contribution to the Greater Kooskia Chamber of Commerce and earmark it towards the Opera House project. Your cash contributions will go toward expenses such as this meeting and toward the fees for consultants to perform the feasibility study and for any match that may be necessary for upcoming grants.
If you are unable to make a cash contribution we will gladly accept your input or in kind contribution of labor, fees for services performed, room and board, volunteerism, ect.
If you are interested in this project and would like more information feel free to send an email to
afab@qrowireless.com or simply attend our next Chamber meeting.
The Greater Kooskia Chamber of Commerce meets at noon and the Opera House team will meet at 11 am at the Kooskia Community Center on March 21.
Also at the next chamber meeting will be a discussion on Kooskia Days. Anyone interested in Kooskia Days should also attend!
We look forward to any response from you.
